It is a fantastic book, that gives lots of insight into character archetypes with great examples from a broad range of movies so that most anyone can have a proper example for a film they have seen.But this is just a part of the soup that is storytelling so don't use it as your sole source of information. That being said, it does a great job at explaining certain topics understandable to a layperson all whilst being relatively interesting (at least for me personally). If you want to get into storytelling and the mechanics of certain archetypes than this book is for you, in my opinion.
Now I know why this book is considered so legendary for storytellers. Not a how-to book, but rather an in-depth exploration of story, character development and life. It explores both the writer as hero of his own life story and as the creator of heroes in the writer's storytelling.
sehr empfehlenswert, nicht nur für Filminteressierte, sondern auch auf das eigene Leben beziehbar und umsetzbar. Ist eben ein Bestseller. Keine Angst vor der englischen Version, sie liest sich auch leicht und flüssig, leider gibt es das Buch ja nicht mehr auf deutsch zu finden- es sei denn sehr teuer gebraucht.
Es hilft einem dabei, Überlegungen anzustellen, welche Elemente tatsächlich in jeder personenbezogenen Erzählung immer wieder in irgendeiner Form vorkommen. Hat man sich vom klassischen Denkmuster erst mal gelöst "es gibt den guten Helden und den bösen Schatten", erkennt man recht bald, dass sich die beschriebenen Kategorisierungen auch in viel abstrakteren, zeitgemäßen/modernen Werken anwenden lassen. Dies hilft letztlich dabei, will man eigene Geschichten kreieren, Struktur in die eigenen Denkmuster zu bringen und die Erzählung und deren Bestandteile letztlich auch so an den Rezipienten vermitteln zu können, wie man es möchte.Man soll aber nicht glauben, dass dieses Buch dabei helfen kann, eine Geschichte zu kreieren! Vielmehr kann es einem dabei helfen, die zu vermittelnde Geschichte zumindest ein Stück weit besser zu erzählen (was für Autoren - welches Medium auch immer sie bedienen - .eigentlich die wirkliche Herausforderung darstellt und darstellen sollte). Dieses Buch ist auch keine Universallösung für dieses Problem. ABER es hilft einem auf dem richtigen Weg, wenn man die vermittelten Lektionen für sich richtig verinnerlichen und verwenden kann.
Tolles Buch! Für jeden der/die Literaturwissenschaften studiert oder im Filmbusiness unterwegs ist, ist das Buch ein Muss... Ich blicke nun ganz anders auf Filme und Geschichten. Die Ursprungstheorie nach Campbell habe ich nämlich nie verstanden.
Was für ein großartiges Buch. Ich habs gerne gelesen, weil ich mich beruflich mit Storytelling beschäftige. Aber auch auf der ganz normalen Kino-Consumer-Ebene leistet Vogler großes. Er öffnet die Augen für die Grammatik der Stoffe, die wir lieben, die uns ans Herz gehen und zeigt auf, warum das so ist und wie das immer wieder neu erzeugt werden kann.
Das Buch ist das wahrscheinlich beste für Anfänger, die mit Monomyth oder Hero's Journey nur oberflächlich Berührungspunkte hatten. Dann wird auf jeden Fall sehr viele Erkenntnisse bereithalten.Für Geschichten- / Drehbuch- / Romanschreiber gibt es ein paar nette Stellen und gute Denkansätze mal zwischendrin.Vor allem die Fragen am Ende mancher Kapitel sind echt interessant (deswegen tendiere ich zu 4 Sternen).Aber im großen und ganzen weiß man was da kommt.
